Living Room Update (and a little spring decor)

This living room space wasn't the easiest layout to design. Its open, but not very large. It really only has one solid wall. There are so many openings, doors, stairs...  I knew going into designing this space, I was really going to have to think through the layout. And its far from done! I like to play, and move things around often, so its likely to not stay this way for too very long. We still have plans to change the stair railing, add some type of architectural pieces going up the stair wall, and I'm on the hunt for the perfect rug for the space!

But as promised, I'm hear to show you our progress, not just our completion! Everything has been freshly painted in Sherwin Williams Useful Grey. And the trim is done in Extra White. Let's look back at what we started with!

And this is where we are now.

Before

And after.

What a difference some paint and accessories can make!

Its all slowly coming together!

In addition to getting the rooms all set up, i'm also trying to decorate for the season. With spring, comes new life! Everything is blooming, its green and fresh! I wanted that to translate inside as well. It's time to shift away from "heavy" decor and make things light and airy. I'm feeling drawn to green lately and found myself using it with my paint color and accessories!

I picked up this little apothecary cabinet at a local antique mall and gave it a makeover with some of my Magnolia Paint.

It's most likely going down to the basement once that space is ready, (we kinda started that flooring project, and then took a 3 week break 😐) But that's another story!

A few more green accessories.... are we starting to see a pattern here lol

Springtime is all about the flowers right! Bringing blooms into your decor can be done with the real deal or with faux. Over the last several years I've been accumulating lots of faux flowers and greenery that I can change out with each season. If taken care of, they are an investment that will last and definitely be worth the $$ spent.

Another change I like to make when decorating for spring is to swap out my textiles. This can be done by changing out an accent rug to a lighter color, removing heavy throws for lighter weight ones.

Changing out your pillows is another very easy way to change your looks with the seasons! My friends are aware of my pillow addiction....it may or may not need an intervention....what's a girl to do 😏
Here's a tip - invest in a few pillow inserts (you can find them at ikea or online). Now you can start accumulating pillow covers that you can change out seasonally. Hobby Lobby has their pillow covers on sale every other week!

Ok, this post somehow grew longer than I intended, but hopefully you guys enjoyed seeing this living room transform and maybe picked up a few tips for spring decorating! As always, thanks so much for stopping by the blog and keeping up with all our projects!!!

"Before" House Tour (part 2)

Here we go guys, I'm back for part 2 of our "before" house tour! There were just too many pics to cram all into one post, so today we are covering the basement and the upstairs. If you missed part 1 of our tour, you can click  here . I won't bore you with a bunch of rambling, let's just get on with the tour! So right off the kitchen are the stairs leading down to the basement I didn't snap a picture with the stairs in it, but they are on that left wall there, right across from the playroom door. Here is what is going to be our school room/playroom. I'm super excited about finally having a designated room for our homeschooling! I am envisioning a fun color, and some built in desks for the kiddos. And then some great storage for the bazzilion toys my children own! There will also be new flooring in this room! That open door there leads to this full bathroom. This space is starting off with fresh paint, and then eventually a new va...

"Before" House Tour (part 1)

Hey guys! Thanks for all the sweet comments about us buying the new house! Your enthusiasm was appreciated! If you don't know how this flipper house came to be, you can click  here  to read the full story!  We were able to get some work done over the weekend and its fun to start seeing things happening! We got all the old kitchen countertops removed and ripped off all the old backsplash. Who knew that could be so therapeutic, but swinging that hammer really relieved some stress! Our painter started as well and I cant wait to get over there and see his progress! Paint can make all the difference in the world! Ok, so before I get too far ahead, I did want to show you guys the inside pictures!  I snapped quite a few and don't want to overload you all, so decided to break this up into two posts. Today I'll show you the main level and a few more of the outside! Let's get started! We definitely plan to have the outside painted, its a pretty house ...

Easy Drop Cloth Curtains and DIY Hardware

So almost all the windows in my house are feeling like rock stars with their Plantation Shutters. You can open them up and let the light pour in, which is always my preference. Or/ if you are feeling like shutting out the world, you can do that too. I mean, the windows that have the shutters definitely have more cool points! And I am so thankful that this house already had all those cool points on MOST of the windows..... And then there's the windows in the dining room. These three girls are feeling like Plain Jane's at the party. For some reason, they were not in the line when the house was handing out shutters. So there they are, totally lacking accessories. It just wasn't fair! I decided they needed some special attention! I made a quick trip to Lowes and had everything I needed for my window makeover! Enter the Drop Cloths! These have so many more uses than just catching paint splatters! The possibilities for these babies are endless, some options being/ pill...
